What's In My Knapsack? ...Part Two

3 minute read

In a previous blog, we looked at our metaphorical ‘knapsack’. The one that we take with us on our personal journey through life. This ‘knapsack’ holds important things we need to be aware of and regard as our personal treasures.

The first treasure that we unpacked was our… Feelings. We discovered that I am the owner of my feelings, no one else owns them and because I am the owner, that means I alone am responsible for them . They live within me. Their job is to give me information about the condition of my heart, not to lead me.

In this part two of ‘My Knapsack’ the next thing we will unpack is our Attitudes.

This is the stance we take toward something or someone.

I am the owner of these attitudes because they live within me and therefore I am responsible for them. I cannot blame someone else for the attitudes I hold, even though I may have taken them on board because of negative circumstances and hurtful situations. I am still the owner and therefore…

I am in control of what I choose to let lodge in my heart.

There is power in this principle of ownership. If I am the owner, that means I have rightful control and am responsible for everything inside me, regardless of how it came to be there. I then can choose my attitude toward someone who may have hurt me . I can choose the path of forgiveness and be amazingly free… or not.

( Forgiveness simply means to cancel the debt).

The consequences of un-forgiveness are toxic and very costly to my own soul.

This freedom to choose my attitude comes from the humility required to own and step up to the truth about what is inside me. This exercise is a gift of kindness I can give to myself, bringing nurture and equipment, for a mature and successful life.

We’ll take another look in our knapsack soon !
